| Background and founding of UNEX METALL GmbH |
The UNEX Moment hose clamp, Herberth Müller-Neuhaus’ invention that formed the basis for the founding of the UNEX METALL company, was actually the product of desperation. The inventor from Silesia wanted to flee in an Opel P4, but there was not enough gasoline to go around in the post-war years. So Herbert Müller-Neuhaus rebuilt the engine of the P4 to run on diesel fuel, which was available in abundance. Unfortunately, however, the high pressure of the diesel engine repeatedly caused the hose fittings to explode at the sockets. Mr. Müller-Neuhaus had an ingenious idea, however. He took a conventional spiral connector and placed a watch spring in it. The hose was thus concentrically compressed and withstood the high pressure. Mr. Müller-Neuhaus later further developed the hose clamp and applied for a patent in 1949.
The “universal express hose clamp” was born and would later give the UNEX company its name. The patent was not granted, however, until the founding of the company on June 14, 1952, in Drosendorf near Hollfeld. Operations were soon moved into a newly constructed production facilities in the first Walsdorf industrial zone, near Bamberg, in 1957. In addition to this positive development, Herbert Müller-Neuhaus was awarded the Rudolf Diesel Award in 1968. A special mechanical engineering division was added to the hose clamp production operations. The next expansion was necessary in 1991/1992 since operations were continually growing. Additional production surfaces were added and an administration building constructed in order to support the new range of formed metal products. In 1998 a production hall was built and other areas in the industrial zone purchased. By 2002, however, even these production surfaces were no longer sufficient due to the company’s continual positive development. The management therefore decided to found the branch in Zell am Ebersberg with the construction of an administration and production building in order to maintain jobs, create additional ones and facilitate corporate growth in the future as well. The first five-axis milling center was commissioned by the end of the 2003 business year. It enables UNEX METALL to provide its production partners with a high-tech production portfolio.

The UNEX METALL GmbH company, with approx. 100 qualified employees, is not just well known outside county borders, it also enjoys a good reputation around the world thanks to its long-term history of business success over the past more than 50 years. High-precision cutting and forming of metal and plastic through CNC turning, CNC milling, grinding, drilling, CO2 laser cutting, CNC folding, as well as modern welding techniques are used to create top-quality products from a wide variety of materials. The company is highly specialized in the making of component parts and special production items incorporating customers’ ideas. Other areas of activity include development, design, prototype construction as well as technical approval all the way to series production. The list of customers includes companies from the packaging industry, food-processing industry, emergency services, medical technology, the chemical-processing industry and the construction of nuclear and wind power stations. In order to expand the product portfolio, UNEX METALL successfully launched a modular restraint system on the market in 2004 after two years of development work.
